Aim: This webinar will provide international senior schools with expert guidance on promoting participation in community projects and service to others as opportunities for pupils to gain leadership skills and hands-on experience in the key areas of DEI and sustainability.

Why this webinar’s important: Engagement in community projects and service can give pupils valuable insight into the wider world. Such experiences help to develop soft skills such as leadership, teamworking and communication, enhance pupil agency and social responsibility, strengthen relationships between the school and the local community, and deepen understanding of contemporary issues linked to the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), including DEI and sustainability.

Outcome 1:

Understanding the difference between service, service learning and experiential learning, and how service to others offers valuable life experience

Suji DeHart

Suji DeHart has been a librarian, service coordinator and international educator for the past 20 years, most recently working at the International School of Kuala Lumpur. She works as an educational consultant for Orenda Learning, helping to guide schools in the implementation of best practice service programmes. 

She is also co-founder of Make A Difference Courses, a social enterprise that creates impact for and with marginalised communities via interactive video "adventures" in sustainability education.
